In 1921, “Coco” Chanel, founder of the well-known luxury brand Chanel opened a shop in one of the most fashionable neighborhoods in Paris. Shortly thereafter, she designed the classic “Chanel suit.”
Although it was designed primarily for comfort and mobility for an active lifestyle, the suit had a very bold look, using traditionally masculine features. It was fabricated from soft and flexible materials, combining woolen boxy jackets and well-fitted skirts. The jacket often had braid trim, metallic buttons and fitted sleeves, which left a polished and sophisticated look. (Shown in picture: Coco Chanel in 1962, sporting one of her own suits.)
